Event recap:

The Ad-Venturee was a great activity.  My compliments to Arielle and the VOA for organizing the event and a big thank you to everyone that helped out.

Upcoming Events:

1) Red Cross First Aid/CPR Refresher Course: On April 29 at Hebron House– Tammy Cinotto will be available for those who already have their Red Cross CPR and First Aid cards to update them for another year.  The cost is $10 per person.

2) SWIM TEST –April 30: Mike McDermott has arranged the use of the CA pool, but he works Wednesdays and we need to be there at 7:30 and leave as soon as we are done.  The Seabase crew and all new scouts must be tested.  All scouts, crew members and adults who need to be tested must be at the Columbia Swim Center (SplashDown),  10400 Cross Fox Lane, Columbia, MD (near Wilde Lake High School) ready to go by 7:30 (arrive a few minutes early, please.  The number of the Swim Center is (410) 730-7000

3) RAFTING: The rafting is scheduled for May 16-18 in Ohiopyle PA.  We have 23 people scheduled to go.  The total cost of the trip is $115 which includes the rafting package, $3 meal gratuity and $15 transportation.  More information is on the web page.

4)  SCUBA introduction course costs $10 for a 90 minute session. The crew decided to invite scouts from the troop with minimum rank of first class.  The scheduled date is May 22, 2008 from 8:30pm to 10 pm.  We need a count NOW.

5) SHOTGUNNING: We are confirmed for the shot gun range at Camp Spencer at Broad Creek Scout Reservation on Sunday May 25.  Cost is $6 for 25 shot round of shooting.  We need to discuss meeting times and lunch.

6) CANOEING: Crews 759 and 851 are planning a canoeing trip on the Potomac River June 6-8.  Shepherd Spring is reserved for camping.  Meetings with Crew 851 produced the following plan:  We will camp Friday June 6, canoe the lower portion “Section 6” (from dam 4 to take out close to dam 3) on Saturday, and have to option to canoe an upper portion “Section 5” on Sunday (from Williamsport south of dam 5 to dam 4.)  River descriptions and a map are on the crew web page.  Crew 851 has 8 scouts and 4 adults interested at this time.  So far Crew 759 has Todd, Arielle, Dale, Lori, Tassia, Lee, Zach, Doug, with Tom and Ashleigh planning just canoeing on Saturday.

7) The Pamlico Seabase OBX (Outer Banks Adventure) is July 6-12, 2008 (http://www.pamlicoseabase.org/index.html).   According to the web page the fee is $325 per person plus expenses for transportation, surfing and shark fishing.  A deposit of $50 deposit per person has been submitted; please reimburse Mr. Coffelt in a timely manner if you have not already.  Note that the maximum crew size for this trip is 8 people.  At this time we have 7 committed (Dale, Lee, Todd, Ashleigh, Arielle, Doug and Colin.) and one highly probable.  Guy said that Langston will most likely go. Balance is due May 4th along with a class 3 physical.  The fees for the additional activities are:  $40 shark fishing (Thursday evening), $60 surfing (morning) and $80 Gulf Stream fishing (all day). The Sea Base crew needs to meet out side of the crew meeting to finalize the activities and select food for the menu.  The Sea Base Crew decided to provide 2 people per meal so that we can have better food during our activity.  Todd is working on tour permit with Robby.

8) CAVING: The crew is looking at doing a caving event on November 14-16 2008 activity with the Troop.  The crew will take the lead.  Note: contact was made with Alan Maddox, but his option was too intense for the proposed activity.  The crew should consider working with Mr. Maddox at a future date. Todd and Dale have been researching location and it appears that Laurel Cavern in Pennsylvania is our best choice.  In addition to caving, they offer climbing, and several merit badge activities which may be of interest for those in the troop.  Dale called and confirmed that they offer camping in November.  Note: there is talk about moving this activity to October 10-12 to avoid possible winter conditions at Laurel Caverns that is typical in November.
