Notes for March 2, 2008 meeting
Created March 7, 2008
Minutes from March 2, 2008 meeting (phone conference): Minutes of Feb 9, 2008 were not discussed.
Event recap:
We had a pretty good attendance at the Feb 28 fund raiser at Chic-Fil-A.
Upcoming Events:
1) Arielle is teaching at “University of Scouting” on March 8, 2008.
2) The Pamlico Seabase OBX (Outer Banks Adventure) is July 6-12, 2008 (http://www.pamlicoseabase.org/index.html). The fee is $325 per person plus expenses for transportation, surfing and shark fishing. A deposit of $50 deposit per person has been submitted; please reimburse Mr. Coffelt in a timely manner if you have not already. Note that the maximum crew size for this trip is 8 people. At this time we have 7 committed (Dale, Lee, Todd, Ashleigh, Arielle, Doug and Colin.) We will fill the last position on a first come first serve basis. The maximum is strictly enforced by the facility. All participants are required to be registered with BSA. Balance is due my mid April 15 along with a class 3 physical.
3) Wilderness First aid: Dale and Todd are registered for the March 8-9, 2008 course.
4) The crew is looking at doing a caving event for the November 2008 activity with the Troop. The crew will take the lead and establish a date and location. Note: contact was made with Alan Maddox, the leader that was involved with the caving activity at last year’s Venturing Quest. Dale is looking at Crystal Grottoes in Boonsboro MD near Sharpsburg. Todd made several call to other facilities, but most appeared to be more of a cavern walk than caving.
5) SCUBA introduction course costs $10 for a 90 minute session. The crew decided to invite scouts from the troop with minimum rank of first class. Dates have not been finalized, but after talking with the troop we are considering Thursday May 8 which is after the scheduled swim test.
6) We have decided to do the climbing wall at Life Fitness on April 2 from 6-8 pm. The cost is $15. The crew decided to invite scouts from the troop with minimum rank of first class.
7) Mr. Dale called and emailed about a possible spring break trip to Timberline for $79, but is not have much luck making contact. There is not update.
8) Venture Quest April 11-13. Several scouts are planning on attending
9) The district Ad-Venturee is April 4-6 and the Crew is running a water rescue station.
10) We are scheduled to back pack Catoctin with the troop April 18-20.
To Be Done:
1) Mr. Dale sent an email to Broad Creek to see if a shot gun range is available on May 3, 4, 10 or 11. Waiting for response.
2) Need to set up the next Chick-fil-A fundraiser date.
3) We need to set up dates with Tammy Cinnato CPR recertification and new CPR/first aid. Troop wants to participate, so we will schedule Tuesday nights.
Fundraising:
1) “Krispy Kreme”: Most of the 50 cards were sold. There are only a few outstanding. We need to wrap up this fundraiser.
