Notes for September 7, 2008 meeting

Minutes from May 4, 2008 meeting: reviewed at meeting.

 

Event recap:

Beach trip was cancelled due to Hurricane Ike.

 

Upcoming Events:

 

1)       CAVING: Plans are moving ahead for the October 3-5 trip to Laurel Caverns. Payments should already have been turned in.

2)       Fall Rendezvous: Arielle may be going.  The rest of the crew is not interested.

 

3)       Christmas Party: District is having a party on December 13.  All crew are supposed to come up with an activity.  There is going to be a gift exchange/game.

 

4)       Earth Treks is having a scout day on November 5th.  Todd is going to get more details, but for now is appears to be 2 hours for $10.  We are also looking at the possibility of another day at the Columbia sport center where we did the last climb.  Todd is taking a “top rope” course that will allow additional belaying.

 

5)       Winter Rendezvous: Broad Creek on Jan 2-4(?)  Crew 851 is scheduled to run the event.

 

6)       Adventuree: March 27-29

 

To Be Done:

1)       We need to think about activities to do at future meetings.  The goal is to have business done in 20-30 minutes and then do the activity to make the meeting more fun and informative.

 

2)       Plans are to have a long skiing/boarding trip for the “Super Activity”. Lee is tasked with checking out locations.

 

3)       The crew has been tasked to find a community service project.

 

Fundraising:

1) “Krispy Kreme”: Most of the 50 cards were sold. There are only a few outstanding.  We need to wrap up this fundraiser!!!!!!!

 

2) Ashleigh is working things out with Chee burger Chee burger.  A tentative date is Oct 9.

 

4)       If we are going to do holiday fundraising at a retail store, we need to schedule it soon!!!!  Possibilities are selling gift wrapping and wrapping at a store (Ashleigh), carrying packages to cars, and subs for Super Bowl.

 

Announcements:

Gabe will be starting his eagle project in the near future. The proposed project is to build flying squirrel boxes for Fort Smallwood Park.  Gabe is asking the crew for assistance.

 

Arielle is still working on the Tee shirt design.

 

The Baltimore Ski Warehouse is a great place to get use ski/boarding equipment cheap   www.theavsgroup.com   Local ski rental tends to be cheaper than renting at resorts

 

Possible future activities: rappelling, climbing wall (possibly Nov or Dec), four wheeling (ATV), horseback riding, snowmobiling, kayaking/canoeing, rafting, snow tubing, snow skiing/boarding, water skiing/wake boarding, backpacking, hiking, SCUBA intro (and beyond), shooting, archery.
